While the very best treatment we found for improving our skin was changing our diets and correcting probable zinc deficiencies, the list below contains some of the treatments I found helpful in addition to diet changes. 1. Exfoliating
my skin at least once a week. I used "Beauty Buffer Exfoliating
Facial Scrub" from Physician's Formula. This would really help
keep budding pimples from getting much bigger and seemed to hasten the
amount of time it took to clear up pimples once they had erupted.
2. Changing my pillow case every night, or at least frequently helped. 3. Keeping my hands off my face helps. Sometimes if I rest my chin in my hands enough when I'm working, I'll notice day that I'll often get pimples right in the places where my fingers pressed into my skin. 4. The type of shampoo and conditioner I used on my hair made a huge difference, especially during times when I've worn my hair longer. My face used to break out whenever I would use any moisturizing conditioner or shampoo for dry or permed hair. It seems odd that there would be enough residue leftover from conditioner or shampoo on hair getting transferred to facial skin to cause facial blemishes, but I've experimented with this over a number of years and there does seem to be a direct link between breakouts the oiliness of my hair products. (The manufacturer's call the oiliness of shampoos and conditions "moisturizing" but the term "oiliness" probably more accurate, albeit less marketable, term.) 5. I found it is better to avoid most make-up, but when I did use makeup, Almay and Physicians Formula seemed to keep my skin in the best shape. For mascara I would not get the water proof kind because then it would require something oily to take it off. For foundation I would always get the oil free formulas. I found these types of makeup worked even better for me than the more expensive brands. 6. For washing my face, the best soap I found was was Olay Foaming Face Wash for Sensitive Skin. One of the worst was Dove, I think because it contains mineral oil. Ivory soap didn't seem to cause any breakouts, but it left my skin very dry in places. While these treatments did help my face quite a bit, I found the best cure to help my skin was getting enough zinc and changing my overall diet.
