Easy Tips for Better Health - Page 2

  1. Get enough sleep.

How much sleep a person needs varies between individuals, and depends on factors such as age and activity level. Most health experts recommend that in general 7 - 8 hours is the minimum amount of sleep needed each night for most people in order to stay healthy. (If you suffer from insomnia, visit my page on how to get more sleep.)

2. Avoid eating foods with trans fats. These are artificially created fats that were created to prolong the shelf life of commercial food products. They do not occur in foods naturally, and people have not evolved to eat them.

3. Get some sunshine each day.

Recent medical studies show many health benefits from sunshine, including protection from cancer. While previous medical studies showed that too much exposure to sunshine could cause adverse health benefits, that never logically meant that no sunshine at all was optimal. The concept of balance, which is a core feature of traditional Eastern medicines, seems to be lacking from Western medicine. According to Western medical experts of previous generations, sunshine had to either be bad or good, and for many years it was unjustly accused of being bad. Very few foods contain appreciable amounts of vitamin D, so sunshine is the only natural way for most people to increase their vitamin D levels.

4. Get some daily exercise. Among its many benefits, exercise has been shown to increase circulation, lower blood pressure, help prevent insomnia, keep weight down and build stronger bones. Try to find something you like to do, such as walking with friend or playing tennis. If you view exercise as a chore, you'll avoid it and then feel guilty about avoiding it.
