If you can afford it, eat organic food as much as possible. |
Studies show organically grown food has more nutrients than food grown by conventional methods. In the U.S. certain guidelines have to be followed in order for food to be certified organic. For plants food to be marked organic, crops must be grown without the use of chemical fertilizers, conventional pesticides or sewage sludge. They must also be processed without ionizing radiation or any food additives. For meat to be labeled organic, the animals must have been raised without antibiotics or growth hormones.
Organic food used to be expensive and hard to find, but things are changing based on growing consumer demand. In my areas, Safeway, a major grocery store chain, has a line of organic foods and produce at cheaper prices than the natural health specialty stores.

Yoga can help you to relax and give a good work out to muscles you didn't even know you had. You can do it almost anywhere. There are even books with poses you can do at your desk at work to help avoid the tension and pain that can come from sitting in the same spot doing repetitive work all day long. Yoga is also inexpensive. Many city recreation departments, Ys and health clubs offer low cost yoga classes. Or you can take is a do-it yourself approach in the privacy of your own home with a few beginner DVDs.

Variety is the spice of life. Eat a variety of foods each day. Experiment with new and unusual ethnic foods. |
How much of your current calories each day come from a few basic staples like wheat, dairy products and potatoes? When you eat the same small subset of foods over and over again, you get same small subset of nutrients over and over again. Eat a variety of nutrient dense foods each day to get a wide variety of different vitamins and minerals, especially to get enough daily magnesium.
