Diet Changes for Dry Mouth, Anxiety, Migraines, Palpitations and Nausea

Symptoms of dry mouth, anxiety, nausea and palpitations are all often attributed to stress. Stress may be a causative factor, but in my experience these conditions all occur together because of biochemical changes within the body that can be mitigated with diet. In some cases I have gotten anxiety attacks from an upset stomach from food poisoning, but I have also noticed that an over acid stomach can also bring on anxiety issues.
When a person has an over acid stomach, it can result in nausea. One of the minerals the body uses to keep an acid-alkaline balance is magnesium. So my theory is that the body uses up magnesium and other important minerals trying to neutralize an over acid stomach, which can happen either from stress or simply just eating too many acid forming foods. I suspect that if magnesium is in short supply, then symptoms of magnesium deficiency, such as migraines and palpitations, occur and the stomach stays too acidic. I'm not sure how the dry mouth fits in with all of this, but I do know that my dry mouth issues have always cleared up whenever I eat more alkaline, magnesium rich raw fruits and vegetables. At one time one of my sons had problems with night sweats, headaches, heart burn and an acid stomach. We took him to all sorts of doctors, regular and holistic, and none had any solutions for him. I found the answer to his problems on the Internet on some Ayurvedic web sites. Basically, in Ayurvedic medicine, his condition was known as having "too much pitta", and the cure was to eat what they call "cooling foods", especially foods like broccoli, cabbage and bananas and whole milk. (In modern day terms I think this translates loosely to his stomach was over acid, which speeded up his metabolism and he needed to eat foods to neutralize the acid and slow down his body.) With no other options, I put my son on this diet and within a few days he was fine. Previously he was so ill he was on home schooling. So here traditional and even holistic medicine didn't even have a diagnosis for what was wrong with my son, and Ayurvedic medicine not only had a name for it, they also had a simple, inexpensive, healthy food based cure. I have never had night sweats like my son, but I have had problems from time to time with nausea from acid indigestion, anxiety and dry mouth. (I have had a lot of problems with dry mouth when I was on a low carb diet.) I've also had similar problems develop when I've eaten too many spicy, acidic foods or too many acid forming foods, like cultured yogurt. Interestingly, in Western terms, many of the foods labeled "cooling" in Ayurvedic medicine not only are rich sources of alkaline minerals, many are known as goitrogens - foods that interfere with thyroid function and hence slow down a person's metabolism. So it actually makes sense that these kinds of foods would make a person less hyperactive and possibly more relaxed. At least they work well for in my family for acid stomachs and the associated symptoms of anxiety, dry mouth, palpitations and headaches.
